SOUL SOCIETY TIMELINE

485 BC: Soul society has reached a state of stability as its entirety was divided into either territories controlled by differing clans or wilderness. Each settling into their own pieces of land to construct infrastructure as alliances were made and diplomacy began to replace the chaotic warfare of the past. The days of blood dyeing the grounds for small bits and pieces of land finally a thing of the past and from the knowledge of the previous war a new entity came into existence, the Shinigami Academy.
Founded by those most experienced in the arts of war the Academy quickly came to be the most renowned organization within Soul Society, serving the purpose to educate the residents in a variety of skill sets concerning battle. However it came at a cost, those whom could not afford the educations would become bound to the academy to serve as indentured servants to work for them until the debt was repaid. Due to their superior education and wealth of knowledge the clans had formed an unspoken rule, that the Academy would not be touched.

15 AD: The illusion of peace has been shattered; the cracks have long been foreseen by keen observers. What stability there might have been was just the veil of deception and as it was stretched its seems tore larger and larger. Those whom sought to prove themselves in battle or war, those who bore grudges and desires for revenge of deeds past, unrest among the conquered and finally the alliances forged that were destined to slam against one another should all hell break loose.
It was at this time that the hammer fell, invoking war as the cries for justice boiled a clan’s blood with rage and the spark ignited a violent period where the ground would be drenched in the blood of the fallen. With the rape and murder of the daughter of the Lucilia Clan’s leader by the Octavian Aper, the heir to the dominate clan in the area, the Aper Clan and the Aper’s refusal to punish their heirs actions as stated by their own customs. After constant attempts to have the Aper right their wrong the Lucilia called upon their allies to seek the justice that they felt they deserved, never knowing that this event would cause the entirety of Soul Society to go through constant periods of war and unrest as the grievances of the past boiled anew.

1015 AD: Soul Society had finally stabilized after coming united after what would be known as the bloodiest period in its history where it could be said that a river of blood flowed from one end to the other. After years of civil unrest, war, skirmishes, death the four great clans and several other influential ones had finally suffered enough bloodshed and sorrow that they could come together to try and ensure it would never happen again.
Together they would form Central 46, the Gotei, and begin structuring the rest of the governing systems of Soul Society. Forty-six of who were considered the wisest men and women were gathered to form as the panicle of the government, Central 46 where six of them would serve as judges. The Gotei was then constructed to serve as the realm’s primary military force. Twelve of the most reliable commanders and warriors were given leadership positions within them as Captains of their own divisions, with one of the most respected commanders during the centuries of warfare being given the position of Captain Commander, a female by the name of Spes Aquillius better known as Aquila due to her serving as the head of her clan’s military affairs during the war.

1215 AD: The project do develop modified souls for combat has failed with the explosion of one of the research facilities heading it, unleashing a large amount of the souls upon the human world to eventually be born into what shall come to be known as Bounts. Central ordered their immediate recovery and the research shutdown. After studying various captured bounts and recovered souls Central determined that they had not suffered any significant mutations that required further intervention, ceasing the study of them and releasing the bounts they had studied to be treated like just any other variety of humans.

1300 AD: The Captain Commander disappeared without a trace, leaving behind only her haori and an open safe containing a journal dedicated to the 9th division captain, Raven Sanosuke. Within the journal held detailed instructions on how the Gotei should ideally developed into a stable military organization, theoretical strategies to employ while in defensive sieges, infrastructure and traps to develop while the city was upgraded in time along with areas as to where and how the captain should improve upon herself. After months of discussion and evaluation, Central came to the conclusion that due to Raven’s skills in combat and education under the Captain Commander that she was the most fit to replace Aquila.

1815 AD: Central is no longer the Central that it was when it had first been formed with all of its original members now replaced due to either deaths or retirements. This was the time when Central would make its first questionable decision, war upon the Quincies. Citing the reason being that the Quincies were responsible for the increased attacks on Shinigami expeditions and research teams that were deployed out in the field, leading to a bloody fight that nearly pushed the Quincy species to extinction before it came to light that they were not the true ones responsible, causing the war to end and a more in depth investigation to begin.

1914 AD: Soul Society finally discovers the cause behind the increased casualties within the human world that they have been suffering, faint spirit particles belonging to a hollow had finally been recovered from a recent fight. Further investigation into hollow activity begins to go underway to get to the root as to why their numbers are far fewer than when records of them were first being kept, and why they are seemingly seeking out small groups of Shinigami.

2000 AD: Central 46 made their second major decision that was received poorly, causing even more to question their decisions. After recent reports of a hollow fortress within Hueco Mundo they ordered the Gotei to launch an assault on it immediately, not heeding any concerns or requests for preparation time to truly understand what was occurring within the hollow realm. Gathering their strongest members the Gotei entered Hueco Mundo, never expecting that because of these actions more than half of their strongest members would be lost to them.
Their gaze fell upon the colossal citadel before them, a citadel whose name they did not know. What they did know however is that it was a fortress housing several beings known as Arrancar and hollows and that they had been ordered to eradicate it. The infiltration seemed to be a success as they made their ways inside, the operation going well so far. Soon enough they would begin to meet resistance as their forces clashed with Arrancar and hollow security guards, cleaving their way past the grunts as they pushed forward. The forces of Hueco Mundo seemed to grow more desperate as the alarms sounded and they fought against the Shinigami forces, some of the arrancar’s last words mumbling “just a little more time..” before they died. Upon seeing the desperation the Shinigami forces pushed harder, confident in the results and despair of their foes.
Pushing their way deeper into the structure they came upon a large, open chamber filled with Arrancar and hollows protecting a large tear in space. Charging forth the forces of Soul Society classed with them, the captains quickly seeking out the strongest of the Arrancar who claimed to be the rulers of the fortress, the Espada. As the fighting dragged on the tear grew smaller and smaller, with the Hueco Mundo forces growing more confident despite the Shinigami gaining the upper-hand in the fight constantly as one Espada fell after another.
It was upon seeing the tear growing smaller that the Shinigami made their decision, nearly half of their forces managed to break through their enemies to enter the tear that their opponents were protecting so desperately. Those that remained behind would continue the fight as the last of the Shinigami disappeared through the tear, however upon their leave what was left of the tear disappeared in just a mere moment. The group that remained behind would soon face the true wrath of the Espada as they took the field, invoking a battle that would spread across Las Nochas and on its outskirts between the two opposing sides.
Ultimately however, none of the Shinigami that had been left behind by the tear would escape Hueco Mundo with their fates unknown as each one was either killed or captured. The blow that they had struck in their dying moments against Hueco Mundo was strong, however it was a trade that was vastly in the Espada’s favor.
Those whom made it through the portal however would not make it out unscathed, they too would bear witness to the might of Heuco Mundo… the might of Barracuda as he personally retaliated. They would find themselves once again making their way through what seemed like the halls of Las Nochas, however as they emerged from a doorway they stood on the outskirts of Karakura Town, sensing the reiatsu of Barracuda above it. They could only watch as his spiritual power gathered, forming into a giant cero aimed at the town itself.
Realization struck them that they had truly underestimated Hueco Mundo, and that Central had made the grieve error of forcing them to play their hand without proper preparation. There was nothing they could do to stop him, he was too far away as the thunderous boom of his cero discharging reached them while they watched the city be devoured by the blast. As the dust settled and they felt his reiatsu disappear, they realized he had left them alone instead of fighting them himself. Falling back to Soul Society in fear of it too coming under attack, they would manage to scavenge what little they could out of the disastrous event. Espada had made their way to soul society and now they struggled to pick them off and eliminate them, killing several of the enemy forces as the Shinigami clawed away at what they could of Hueco Mundo’s advantages they had gained.

2002 AD: A millennia of bloodshed had only bought a millennia of peace as it seemed as if Soul Society would be the battle ground for civil war. Members of the Gotei rebelled against Central for their incompetence, wishing to place the Gotei as the ruling system within Soul Society. The Shinigami left the Seireitei to take up position within Western Rukongai and began a civil war akin to Earth’s Cold War. Each side staring down the other, their blades sheathed as they felt the breath of death breathing down their necks by Hueco Mundo. As much as each side would want to eliminate the other, they could not for fear of the third party intervening and obliterating them all.

2012 AD: Central 46 decided to take matters into their own hands against the Shinigami. They hired an orginization known as the Qulin to attack and eliminate the so called 'Reapers'. However, the Qulin not only attacked the Reapers, but the Gotei as well. Shinigami all came together to fend off this threat although many Captains lost their lives. Raven Sanosuke, the Gotei Captain Commander, delivered the killing blow to the Qulin leader, causing all his followers to retreat from the Soul Society. Upon discovering who hired this orginization, Central 46 was completely eliminated, each one of them hunted down and killed.

HOLLOW/ESPADA STORYLINE

15 AD: Hueco Mundo is a desolate wasteland that does not know the meaning of civilization. Those with power and intelligence are but mere fireflies in the eternal darkness that is the insatiable horde of hollows which reside there. Small bases of the intelligent rise and fall over the course of time, with all but the strongest succumbing to the inevitable tide of hollows that seek to devour their strength.
Among those within Hueco Mundo are a class of hollows beyond any other, the rare few whose numbers can often be counted on a single hand. The Vasto Lorde, the most powerful of hollow that are capable of standing against the eternal horde to lay claim upon the land that they so desire. From one of those few hollows that are akin to royalty within Hueco Mundo an arrancar of unprecedented power and vision arose. His name was Barracuda Marracruz, his vision was civilization, and what he would leave behind was his legacy. In that year Hueco Mundo lost a Vasto Lorde and in exchange it gained an arrancar, it gained a star of hope that was the birth of nightmares for all whom would stand before what he would come to build.

115 AD: The mongrels of Hueco Mundo are ignorant, they are blind and they are pitiful. Slaves to a purposes that shall never be fulfilled, ensnared and consumed by the eternal void that is their hunger. The vast oceans of hollow that reside within this realm are beyond redemption and salvation for they are beneath all. They are less than Shinigami, they are less than quincy, less than humans and less than the animals that populate the other realms. They are an existence that should be forsaken for their entirety are less than even a single grain of sand that litters the surface of Hueco Mundo, less than even an atom that populates the human realm for they are hollow, void of everything of value.
The rare few among them that show promise, those that have a sense of self are the only hope for such a wretched race. It is these few that are worthy of a chance to become something greater, to be a part of a new world that Barracuda shall form. And so the great purging began, a crusader unlike any other against the mindless masses of Hueco Mundo. It was the start of a process that would hundreds of years to complete but when it would be done, a new world would be born. A world that would send tremors of fear throughout all of soul society for the first time the hollows would be united, for the first time they would use tactics, for the first time soul society would not be facing a mindless horde… they would be facing a nation united.

865 AD: Conquering Hueco Mundo would have been easy, selective genocide however is difficult. It is a realm that is far larger than one would initially anticipate, one with massive caverns that lay beneath its white ocean of sand. Caverns which spread throughout its crust and deep below, all of which hollows make their home. It is both a difficult and time consuming task to inspect each hollow before it is eradicated, to place judgement upon the undeserving without snuffing out the flames of intelligence that burns within those few hollow worth saving.
However each discovery of such hollow speeds up the process, each glimmer of hope for the once unchanging race collected only adds to the strength of the great purging. Little by little hollows and arrancars came to join Barracuda through one way or another until finally the strength of his following created a turning point. It had reached a point where a more organized genocide was born, a genocide that would spread throughout the sands and into the depths to eradicate those unworthy of life. It was no longer a lone arrancar’s vision to establish a new order, instead it was now an entire following.

1215 AD: Hueco Mundo has fallen, the world of mindless hunger as it was known known is dead. The realm of chaos tamed and the storm of hollows calmed. Hueco Mundo was no longer the raging maelstrom that it once was, instead it had risen to become a volcano and upon its white landscape a great construction was taking place. The pinnacle of the new world, the summit from which civilization would spread out across the land, the citadel Las Nochas was being forged to seat those few whom rise up to rule this new world. The only places left untouched were the lairs of Vasto Lordes and the very depths of the world, all else had fallen to the purging with the new race beginning to rise from the ashes of the old.

1265 AD: As the construction of Las Nochas crawls onward order is being established among the hollows, rules set forth to govern them. Before Barracuda took control and rule through his spoken orders, now he sought to begin the most difficult aspect of changing Hueco Mundo, establishing rules that would form the foundation of the greatness to come; the most important of which addressed cannibalism. Cannibalism continued to be permitted against those too weak to defend themselves, as was the Hollow way. But it was no longer chaotic. The feeding was done within a defined set of rules, with class, power, and social weight all playing a part in the process. Those who were driven by blind instinct--without a semblance of destiny--were considered nothing more than food for those with vision. Hollow who refused to align themselves with the new society were treated the same with only the handful of Vasto Lorde’s being left alone.

1340 AD: As more of Las Nochas’s foundation is completed so too is the foundation for the future government of Hueco Mundo, the foundation for what shall later become known as the Espada. The massive change at this time for hollow society was the organization of hollows and delegation of duties. Departments would rise up to take on various responsibilities for leading the hollow nation towards greatness. Many would be disbanded, restructured or merged as their government evolved, ever changing towards something greater. It was during this time that raids against the other realms become more organized, schedules set in place and attacks spread out as they no longer sought only sources of food, but to carry out missions to advance hollow society as a whole.

1515 AD: Yet another wave of advancement is dawning upon hollow society, the advancement of technology. With the successful captures of Shinigami during their raids and the utilization of hollows with unique evolution the creation of laboratories was soon realized. Hueco Mundo now had techonology at its disposal, while it was not as advanced as the shinigami’s it was a crucial step in the advancement of the species. Assaults on Shinigami field research teams would bring in new technology to study and utilize for their own purposes as a new strength was born and refined in hollow society, the strength of one’s intellect behind mere cunning or military affairs.

1715 AD: It was resolute, majestic, domineering, imposing, it could be described using a multitude of words and phrases however one thing would always be consistent no matter whom gazed upon the sight of Las Noches… It was terrifying. Hueco Mundo was a wild land with only brief moments of order throughout known history, with those moments of order falling with the beings in power as they died. Las Noches however stood in testament to Barracuda’s legacy, to his feat of uniting Hueco Mundo into a government. It is a citadel whose size surpasses even the Seireitei’s, dwarves the great pyramids in the human realms and gazes down upon the white sand like a lone mountain.
It was here that among Barracuda’s followers that those with the most influence over their world would raise to the pinnacle of its militaristic government. It was here that the Espada would form, those whom carved out their own small thrones with in Hueco Mundo would have the potential to impact all of hollow society. However like many positions within the new hollow society, the Espada were dominated by Arrancars. While hollows resided within and around the citadel it were the arrancars that held the majority of the power within the realm, something that would facilitate the roots of racisism between the two species. One that have forsaken their ability to evolve in exchange for power, who rose to positions of power and those hollows that have not yet removed their masks. In general arrancars viewed hollows as lesser beings, while hollows viewed the arrancars as abominations.

1815 AD: Impossible, they are just mindless beasts, creatures born out of suffering and consumed by their own hunger. They can not unite. They can not form a lasting civilization let alone rules. That is what has always been thought of when the Shinigami thought of hollows, now they think that no more. Now they feel the fear. The terror that shatters their spine at the revelation that all they had ever known could soon be lost. The hollows have united. The hollows have built a civilization, a massive citadel that surpassed even Seireitei from what their teams could see from afar.
If what their nightmares told them while they slept were true, all hope was lost for their one advantage over the hollows was gone. They still did not know the extend of this new society’s power, their numbers or technology, what they did know was more than enough to tell them that from here on out hollows were an entire new enemy.

1915 AD: Technology opens new windows of opportunity for every race and now the hollows have finally caught up with the Shinigami. They have been meticulous, careful in their raids and research. Hollows whose evolution allowed them to invade the minds of captured Shinigami scientists had been granted immunity from consumption so that this day would come, so that their technology would finally rival that of soul society’s. May the soul king have mercy upon the souls of all whom would bring the wrath of Hueco Mundo down upon them, for now yet another advantage that the Shinigami’s have had was stripped away.

2000 AD: Insolent mortals, how could a society that was filled with reason make such a catastrophic mistake? How could those in command of Soul Society possibly fathom that they could destroy Las Nochas in a single assault? That they held the sheer power to eradicate it without first attempting to weaken its foundation? It went beyond foolish. Beyond incompetence… beyond even the stupidity of the mindless hollows for even they knew fear and trembled at the sight of Las Nochas.
The thirteen squads launched an all-out assualt consisting of its strongest members against Las Nochas, Shinigami stalked towards the massive gates, not knowing that their welcoming party had already been devised. Las Nochas was not a city like Seireitei, it was a citadel unlike any others. Built to be just as defendable as it was awe-inspiring, there was a reason as to why it had taken five hundred years to complete its construction. Mock invasions and assaults were done on miniatures tests of it, defense mechanisms tested and developed before they were forged into the Goliath that would dominate the realm.
Little did they know that the halls that they were making their way through would end up being painted red with their blood, that for many of them this would be their last moment as free, living beings. These halls would bear witness to their despair when Hueco Mundo’s fangs sunk into them in retaliation. Upon seeing the desperation the Shinigami forces pushed harder, confident in the results and despair of their foes… just as was planned.
When they came upon a large chamber, filled with Arrancar and hollow protecting a tear in space the opposing forces classed. Privaron Espada posed as the true Espada in the fight to give the Shinigami a false sense of the upper hand. As the fighting dragged on the tear grew smaller and smaller, with the Hueco Mundo forces growing more confident, giving the illusion that their goal was to prevent the Shinigami from reaching it… The illusion worked, the Shinigami made their second mistake. They underestimated their enemy once again, underestimated the vision and might of Barracuda along with his Espada.
Roughly half of the Shinigami forces managed to make their way through the portal in time before it closed, seeing that their full force wasn’t needed in the chamber. Those that remained behind would soon find out that they had no hope… that they were forsaken and destined to be defeated. With the closing of the portal Hueco Mundo’s fangs sunk in and began to tear at the flesh of Shinigami. Members of the true Espada made their appearance in the chamber and with their coming they shattered the hope of all whom opposed them. Those whom were not killed were captured, including the captains of squads two and three. Espada suffered casualties in the trap as well, however it was successful.
Those whom made it through the portal however would not make it out unscathed, they too would bear witness to the might of Heuco Mundo… the might of Barracuda as he personally retaliated for their insolence.
They had realized what had happened. Realized that they had been following the plan of Hueco Mundo to the letter, all to bear witness to his strength. He was too far away, there was nothing they could do as the great booming of a cero discharging echoed out… as the town of Karakura was destroyed in a single blow. And then he was gone, returning to his throne in Las Nochas Barracuda left the Shinigami to stare at the destruction before them, content in letting them suffer the consequences of their actions.
That was where the battle was meant to have ended based, to send the Shinigami back fleeing to their city with their tails between their legs in defeat. However not all of the Espada were satisfied with not trying to press their advantage even more, not all understood just how desperate and powerful that a Shinigami could be when forced back into a corner such as this. Those Espada that sought to press on the attack on their own entered the human realm, they gave chase to the Shinigami as they fled back into soul society, and both sides suffered more casualties.

2012 AD: Espada began to rally together after the Gotei split. They made plans to strike. However, once they brought the idea up to Barracuda, they discovered that their own leader sold them out to an organization known as the Qulin. The same organization that Central 46 hired to attack the Gotei.
