Hello everyone, I am Hobopew/Jay/Jamie/Kuma.

I play the big friendly Teddy Bear Kumaoro Itomoto, squad 3, I am from England and currently finishing off my three year course studying the American Theatre arts, where I aim to go out into the real world and do some serious acting in theatre/film or hopefully into the world of voice, but I'll talk to great lengths on that elsewhere.

I love anime, I love acting/roleplay and writing, and I can't wait to see you guys out in the forum, I've been through a few iterations of this forum, so lets go have fun, or if you have any questions let me know :D

Kumaoro Itomoto

Age: 539

Squad: 3 (Unseated)

Training: Self and under tutelage of Captain Comannder

Kumaoro is what most people would typically call a ‘teddy bear’ once you get to know him, he loves to joke around and just relax and especially avoid any hostilities or unpleasant situations if at all possible. He is the type to let you talk first and always listen intently to whatever it is one has to say, and will always try to comfort his friends whenever they’re down or upset.
No one likes doing work like Kuma dislikes doing work, he’s much rather be somewhere else doing anything else, as such he’ll often be seen as a slacker as it’s rarely up to date unless it’s being done the few hours, or even the night before it’s due to be handed in, and like a schoolboy Kuma often makes up excuses as to why he can’t do it right this instant. One of his greatest lines are “But I could be doing literally anything more fun… Like anything”

Though this sort of personality is only when the situation when thrown into the field Kuma is completely dedicated to the mission, his orders and his comrades. As one might imagine he would give his life to protect those around and close to him, and if anything happens to those people Kuma takes it as a personal failure, and often cripples him until they’re fully recovered once the mission is over.

He treats all others with the respect he is given, even those considered ‘below’ him or even the enemy he is fighting, and retains the optimism that under different circumstances that he and whoever he is fighting may have gone for a drink together. Though in the heat of battle Kuma gives his enemy the respect ‘they’ deserve by not holding back, and giving them a fight he’d be proud to go out on, even if he is able to overpower them, however the opposite happens once the defeat has happened he will try to incapacitate rather than kill if he can.

Kuma is also the sort to stop before entering a battlefield to not only consider all the options but to consider the lay of the land and the strategic opportunities, rarely will Kuma go into a fight without knowing something about either who he is fighting, who he’s fighting with or where he is fighting, and often has a tactical mindset for a battlefield overview.

All that being said, there are days when even the sunniest of summer days can have a cold breeze and thunder clouds appear. These times are rare for Kumaoro, there are days that he will prefer no interaction with people or at least very minimal interaction, some stiff drinks and some classic/new to him rock tunes. These are the days where he gets glimpses of his old home, all the women, children and young soldiers he had responsibility over and died because of him.

So post below and we will plot some threads!

Appearance

Kumaoro is a Large man in every sense of the word, he is broad, large muscled and very well toned man standing at 200cm (6’7”) that often overshadows many of the other Shinigami he’s around, and at first glance could come across as the intimidating sort as his long flat and smooth dark brown hair falls back over his head, though two lengths are brought out to fall down beside his eyes, and is kept in check by a blue headband that goes around his forehead and round the back, his hair falls down to his shoulder length.

For facial hair Kumaoro has a thin moustache that doesn’t quite join under the nose as well as some on the bottom of his chin, and although to some it may seem like it’s not grown properly, it’s actually more like a stubble or a shadow of where he has shaved.

Along his right arm is a red tribal tattoo that came from his village when he was alive, and has a lot of sharp points than it does curves.

Kumaoro’s choice of clothing is often simple and unrefined, and if he had his choice he’d trade all of his clothes for something that fit comfortably, than to ‘regulation’ or ‘uniform’ and when not on duty can be found in the simplest of clothes and designs. This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have a sense of fashion or what looks good on him, he just prefers practicality over aesthetically pleasing choices of clothing, and has been known to look rather good with a fresh shave, and some of his finer robes dusted off for special ceremonies.

Biography

Kumaoro would love to tell you he remembered much of his living life as some others, however he does not, or if he does he definitely doesn’t want to remember.
Spoiler (Show/Hide)
Like many children in the age of the shoguns of Japan it was just a simpler time, people went about their farms, or their cattle, or their other jobs in the little town that Kumaoro grew up in. It was a small village far from the capital, though it only had a population of around fifty citizens or so, and as such rarely came up on maps of the country unless they were being specific, or looking for a census to tax. Times were happy, and people for the most uneventful, the Shogun ruled the country and things were generally kept in order.

Kumaoro as a child grew up with tails of the famous samurai, and how they’d serve their lords and the rumours of their amazing skill with a blade as such he, and many other kids of that generation, grew up with ideals of becoming a heroic legendary samurai to their lord. Unfortunately for the young man growing up when he joined the local militia all he had to do was fend against the occasional bandit or their gang that came through, and although he spent most days training, the other men of the town militia weren’t as passionate about being a good warrior and defending their home than he was, and the sacks and wooden training dummies that they had were usually rotten or broken so he didn’t have much other than his shadow to train against.
He did the job for twenty seven years (To be specific) and had become a proud achievement of the little town he had been born in, as he had become more and more skilled with a blade to the point that some Ronin came to challenge him, and although some gave him a run for his money, they were no samurai as Ronin were masterless Samurai, who had failed in their duty or had dishonoured their lord. Still though Kumaoro had no specific Renown to the country or the legends that were passed to his generation, however when the Ōnin war, a bid for the Shogunate, a civil war across Japan erupted Kumaoro was called upon for duty and he stepped up to the challenge, however before he left his village gave him, and a few other men, the same tattoo along their arm so that they would always know where they came from and the proud honour they carried with them.

Though only a katana foot soldier under the Shimazu Clan Kumaoro lasted loyally through many battles, sometimes they were dominating victories sometimes crushing losses, but now the Bear of the man was doing what he dreamed of as a child, serving his lord, with his blade and the enemies blood despite not specifically having the title of Samurai though he slogged on through each battle, seeing more and more of his friends from his village die, as well as those he now called brothers in arms. His unit was slowly wittled away and replenished with newer and newer soldiers, young boys who barely knew how to hold a blade, and although they listened to the general those that were in the same unit often followed Kumaoro’s example whilst the battle was in. Years went on and it became clearer and clearer that Kumaoro should have been the officer in charge of their strand, and as talking continued the news of what the soldiers truly thought ran up the ranks to the officer that controlled their unit, and worked directly under the general of their faction.

Naturally he wasn’t happy that his own men were wanting someone else giving their orders, a man who apparently cared for their individual lives, and not the glory of the clan. As such plans were made, schemes were hatched and a trap was hatched to betray Shimazu and kill this ‘hero’ under his orders.

When an opposing army was marching under the cover of night orders were given to the officer in charge of Kumaoro and his section of the Shimazu army to go back and defend a wide area, an area that encompassed his old town. Naturally when the chance came the older warrior, now in his thirties, stepped forward and offered to take the lead in the defence of the area that had his home town in and he claimed he only needed the rest of his sword unit, and a unit of archers to successfully defend the area, as he knew it well.

When the enemy appeared however, rather than a fraction coming through, scouting for resistance as Kuma was told would be in that area, he was met with several units, cavalry, archers, catapults and swordsmen all ready to take this small town. In hindsite Kumaoro should have just evacuated his town, the few others in the area and let them have it, however he was now in charge and believed he could do what he said he could, defend the area with what he had. Although he wasn’t completely without his sense, and he sent the best rider on the fastest horse he had to report for reinforcements.

At first Kumaoro found his forces were spread too thinly to even give anything remotely like a defence against this sort of force, and whilst what he had was whittled down he eventually made a foothold in his old hometown, getting what civilians he could there, and what was left of his two units. Together barely making up the numbers of one unit he had them defend the village. For some reason the catapults never once fired, something Kumaoro was thankful towards the heavens for.
Though something wasn’t sitting right, although they were defending as best they could they still had the numbers, and the horses to just charge through their lines and slaughter them all, if they wanted too. It wasn’t until they survived a restless night of small raids on their defences did a messenger come. Claiming that they wanted no more bloodshed, and if the commander officer were to come forth to settle the details they’d be spared and taken prisoner rather than die. Although the idea of being a prisoner was hardly a better answer to death.

Though to save the young boys he’d been given to look after Kuma met them in the middle point between the town and the invading forces. He was greeted by a handful of fulled armed highly trained samurai, and a pompous looking officer. It was only when he spoke that Kuma realised that this was just the officer he once reported too dressed up, in enemy uniform. He claimed Kumaoro and those men he was fighting with had deserted, and would be put to death. As he looked at the man he once called sir, he heard the release of catapults and saw the rocks flying over his head.
The village was burned, destroyed and the cavalry made sure anyone fleeing was ran down, and Kuma was forced to watch all he knew to die before him, as the handful of Samurai warriors held him down to watch, this broke Kumaoro externally, however his mind was working furiously to let him know where he went wrong, how he could have seen this, and what to do now. Eventually after weeks of being held prisoner Kuma was given a choice of his outcome, he asked to die in combat, not knowing how else to strike back other than taking as many with him as he could. Though of course the warriors chosen to fight him were the Samurai most loyal to the officer, who were younger and trained almost from birth by noble families.

The match didn’t last long, as the five samurai came at Kumaoro at once, though something was different in the older warrior now, he didn’t care, and he wasn’t thinking. He moved completely on instinct, and the first Samurai to swing was taken down in a beheading movement, that Kumaoro hardly had to move to perform. The next Samurai died because he was stunned at the movements which seemed to have no natural tell. Kuma’s barely sharp katana went through the armour under his left arm and into his chest, piercing his heart.

Though in that time the other three Samurai had returned from their daze and moved on Kuma. Hitting him in three separate spots, and cutting him down. Though as he was cut down to his knees. Kuma kept his eyes on the officer who he once looked up to, and followed blindly, blindly to his own death. And all the warrior did with his last breath was chuckle.

Since his death he spent a century in the slums of soul society helping those he could with what little he had, and this was where his hair grew to the length it is known for now. It didn’t take long for his skills to be noticed by some Shinigami passing by, as Kuma fended off a few thugs trying to pick on some old man. Although Kuma was unarmed, he was beaten badly and still standing, it was then that those passing Shinigami recommended putting his skills to use and joining their forces.

He passed fairly easy, despite barely getting the hang of the magic they used, as Magic was the stuff demons used, he was almost against it to start with. Though the academy was nothing much to talk about for Kuma and when he passed he wanted to help those in need, as he had done in the slums and as such was taken into Squad 8 to do what he could for those that needed help, and although he still goes out of his way to help those that aren't Shinigami even when he isn't on duty, he trains almost religiously to become someone of legend and to make sure that those mistakes that cost so many young lives aren't repeated in the afterlife. As although he attempts to maintain the happy caring attitude, he still thinks of those mistakes he has made and the cost haunts him every waking moment.

As although he attempts to maintain the happy caring attitude, he still thinks of those mistakes he has made and the cost haunts him every waking moment.

Naturally once he was assigned to squad eight and his duties began, the large, sometimes stoic Shinigami tried to make those he worked with both in his squad and out close friends. His hard work in the training regimes soon showed how skilled he was with a Zanpaktou and occasionally with his own fists, and despite the few jealous types, most others seemed to find Kumaoro a pleasure to be around. Those higher up however would often find that his paperwork and organisation of said work needed a lot of work, often the reports were on scraps of paper that had been crumpled and stuffed within his robes carelessly.

Most days were fairly quiet, that was until the split between the Reapers and the Gotei, a civil war ripped through the squads, and disrupted the peace he once cherished. It was a dark day not only for the squads, the souls, but also for the once noble warrior. Those turned traitor tried to spread lies in his mind and when he showed signs of staying loyal to the Captain Commander and the Gotei as he knew it, they drew their blades on him. The battles to leave his own squad were bloody, and each night he hears their screams as he tore through them, and they cut him apart. The bear like man was wounded, physically, mentally, and spiritually as he limped out into the dark alley's of the Seiteirei maze. Heavily wounded Kuma managed to make his way to the squad one house, after overhearing the orders to re-group there once the usurping of several squads were over.

It was here he met the Captain Commander herself, and where his PTSD somehow caught her eye. She personally transferred the battered Shinigami to her squad there was something about his respectful demeanour, his tactile mind, and of course his swordplay seemed to have him earned his place as a “Squad one” in terms of potential, or at least this was how Kumaoro came to understand it, though his lack of skills in the more mystic arts left him lacking in a large part of combat. It had been mentioned several times how he should have gone to squad eleven due to his attitude to the entirety of the “ninjas” in squad 2, or the disgust he had for the ‘magik’ users of the Kido corps. Still Commander Raven saw something in the docile beast, and took him under her fiery wing throughout the civil war, to teach him a more ‘hands on’ approach of learning Kido. The lessons had their moments, and of course under the eagle eye of the most powerful warrior in Seireitei he learnt the basics fairly quickly, or at least some of the basics confidently over the course of several nights. It was more the ‘after lesson’ specials that put fuel to the rumour engine. As the two warriors agreed that if Kumaoro Itomoto, this un-named, un-seated nobody from Third squad did well in his lessons he was allowed to spar the Captain Commander, in a one on one fight, and despite Kumaoro’s intentions of pushing the graceful Captain into a ‘no holds bar’ fight, the best he got was her Shikai, though it was seeing this side of her, and the constant application of Kido in their spars that he connected to the energy around him, and even to the small impulses that came from his blade. It wasn't long until he found the name of his spirit, though their conversations weren't long in terms of dialogue he could feel what the spirit, Tenkai, wanted him to say or do.
Often during the civil war he felt like the blade was shivering out of fear, and though some other Shinigami caught Kuma talking to his blade, he found though he often didn't get an answer, the spirit within it felt calmer and was growing to trust him more. In his minds eye he felt like the spirit was akin to a scared child, or abused animal and needed coercing into friendship and safety. Though knowing he had made the connection made his fight all the more worth while, as it meant he was growing in power, he had one more thing to protect, and that Raven must have been right to see something in him.

Despite the training, he kept his place in the front lines, in fact he insisted on being the first one sent in and often was the last one to leave a mission. The war had changed something in his mind, something far below the surface, the jolly and cuddly teddy bear now had a dark part of his mind that although was a seed when he fought and trained under Raven, was now beginning to show signs of foliage. Though it was during one particularly bad mission on earth, where he met some Humans with amazing powers, akin to Fullbringers, only more controlled, less dependant on something....And their quest for knowledge and control disturbed him. Kuma attempted to hide his identity as one of the Shingami that 'trespassed' upon their guarded ground, but eventually the truth came out. It was during this encounter, that his effort with Tenkai paid off, and though no words were shared between the bear and his blade, he knew what to say, to call his ally to his side. "Tenkai, Remove!" was all he needed to say, and his double edged blade moulded in his hand. Amazed at the raw power he felt now, rather than being on the back foot against these hostile humans, the Bear could step from his metaphorical corner and though it was a rough fight, he managed to get back home and report on the activities. Despite it being a day off.

As if on cue another problem arose for the Shinigami, both Gotei and Reaper, the Qulin attacked, and they brought a weapon Kuma had seen once before in the beginning of his career, back when the reapers had just formed and the wounds from betrayal still fresh, they brought the crystals that somehow took the energy from raw souls, and formed it into a weapon. Of course with the distraction of the skirmishes off across Seiteirei, the missions on earth, standard soul protection duty there was not many to deal with the amount of pillars that had been planted. Without thinking about himself, the large warrior rushed to the scene of the first Pillar he could reach, only to find the devastation was just beginning. The souls in the immediate area had already been used to power the pillar somewhat, and the screams of those witnessing the process only grew.

It was now or never for Kuma, he was either going to make a difference, or die trying, and although Tenkai shook from the events around them, once Kuma placed his hand on his hilt the spirit seemed to stand more confident. With blade in hand Kuma, struck out against the Bounts, limited knowledge with him, only that he had seen what these pillars could do and needed to be stopped. What the Shinigami lacked in raw spirit power, he made up for in skill, long enough for reinforcements to show up, and by then, both the bear and the bount were tired, tired enough to be making mistakes. Kuma never saw the pillar come down, but he did wake up in a medical facility, and though he didn't feel like a victor he was told thanks to his efforts, the backup shinigami managed to fend off the bount and destroy the pillar.

"The rest is history" so they say, and that is how Kumaoro speaks of the Civil war, he kept on training where and when he could, kept completing his duties and soon it was all over however the bear like man still talks about the civil war, and the stories he has collected in his spare time, the fight with the captain commander and seeing her at what many would call her most ‘manic’ or ‘homicidal’ he called it her more ‘pure’ or ‘beautiful’, being a warrior and believing whole heartedly in a good death in a fight, he also believed you saw peoples true nature when you truly let go and put everything into the fight. Still, this Shinigami went toe to toe with the Captains Shikai, and even managed to get her to tap into her ‘pure’ self. It for him, was like seeing heaven, seeing his creator, and knowing that he had done well. Despite the immediate ‘absence of duty’ to squad four, for a while Kuma knew what he had to do, how hard he hard to train, and often wondered if he’d get another chance at the captain or if he’d remain her ‘pet project’ to become something more than his unseated, often lazy station in the squad house.

It was a weird few years, what with his ‘secret special training’, his few lessons that he helped out with in the academy, to repay them for his sheer awesome (in the traditional sense of the word) events, and his look on those in other squads being changed, he found a few of his closer friends weren't even in his squad. The most valued of all being Ms. Onyx Blackheart, a cold shouldered beauty to some, but an honest and valued friend that the bear held close to his heart. He often found himself in her company when he most needed an ear to talk too, a shoulder to lean on, and of course a friend to share a joke with. The worst part of this was that she was one of those ‘ninja’ that belonged in squad two. In fact she was their lieutenant, still Kuma tried his damnedest not to hold that against her, all he really cared about was that she listened, and spoke true to him. Secretly he was glad the Reapers came back to the Gotei and saw the errors of their ways, it meant they could all move forward for the greater good, though with the Civil war truly over, central 46 uprooted, and normality somewhat restored, Kuma has stepped back into the faceless crowd. He was requested back into the relief squad, now squad three, and hoped to progress his career from there, where it was when the war broke out.

The only difference now, rather than working on even connecting with his zanpaktou, he was now looking to strengthen their bond, and work towards Bankai level of strength, so that next time he spared the Captain commander he could stand up for longer...
